How your numbers are calculated
Exactly how profit, total in, revenue, money owed and fees are worked out.
These are the rules behind the numbers on your Dashboard, in Sales and in Stocky's answers. They are the same everywhere.
Profit (Gross Profit)
Profit is what you sold the items for, minus what they cost you. For each item on a sale, it is the price you charged minus the cost you saved on the sale, times how many you sold.
- Delivery fees, driver pay and tax never change profit.
- What you spend on vendor orders (Order Spend) shows next to profit, but it is not taken out of it. The cost of items you already sold is already counted, and stock you bought but have not sold yet is not a loss.
- If you sell something for less than it cost, that sale counts as a loss, so your total stays honest.
Total In
Total In is the total of the sale, the same number printed on the receipt: the items, plus the delivery fee, plus tax. What you pay the driver does not lower it.
Revenue
Revenue is just the money for the items, before the delivery fee and the tax.
Sales that are only partly paid
A sale counts in full on the day you ring it up. If the customer paid part and still owes the rest, the unpaid part is already inside Profit and Total In. That means these numbers are not the same as the cash in your bank. When this applies, the Dashboard tells you how much customers still owe, in the note under Gross Profit.
Delivery Fees card
The delivery fees you collected, the driver fees you paid and the difference are shown only on the Delivery Fees card. They are never mixed into profit or total in.
Voided sales
A voided sale is left out of your Dashboard and out of commission. It stays in Sales, marked as voided.
Tax
Tax is figured on the sale with your store's rate and added to the total. It is shown on its own. It is not part of profit or revenue.
