Catalog and costs

Why every item needs a cost, and what happens when you change or delete an item.

The catalog is the list of what you sell. Each item has a name, a category, a price and a cost. The cost is what the item cost you to buy. The app uses it to show how much you really made on each sale, so keep your costs right.

Changing a price or a cost

When you ring up a sale, the item's name, price, cost and category are copied onto that sale. If you change a price or a cost later, old sales stay the way they were. Only new sales use the new numbers.

Deleting an item

If you delete an item from the catalog, old sales that included it keep their own copy. Your history and your profit numbers do not change. You just can't pick that item on a new sale any more.

Freight

The cost on an item is what you pay for the item itself. Freight you pay to get your stock delivered is not added to your profit automatically. When you place an order in Orders, you can enter a shipping amount to keep with it.
